Mahlkönig Grinder Service & Repairs NZ

Machine Ltd is Mahlkönig's official distributor and service partner for New Zealand. We supply Mahlkönig grinders to cafés, roasters and home baristas nationwide, and service them from our Auckland workshop in Wairau Valley, whether it's an E65S working through a busy morning rush or an EK43 on a roastery cupping bench.

Why service your Mahlkönig with the NZ distributor?

  • Genuine Mahlkönig burrs and parts. Mahlkönig warns that non-original burrs affect performance, burr life, safety and warranty. As the NZ distributor, we source original parts directly. We keep common Mahlkönig burr sets and service parts in stock in Auckland.
  • Trained technicians. Mahlkönig says repairs should only be carried out by qualified, trained technicians. Our technicians are trained by Mahlkönig.
  • Grind-by-weight and firmware. We calibrate the load cells on grind-by-weight grinders and carry out firmware updates on the E65S GbW, E80S GbW and Grind-by-Sync models.
  • Warranty repairs. Mahlkönig grinders supplied by Machine Ltd come with a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase, and our technicians carry out the warranty repairs.

When do Mahlkönig burrs need replacing?

Worn burrs are the most common reason a grinder stops performing. Blunt burrs produce more fines, run warmer and slow the grind, which shows up in the cup as muddier, less consistent espresso and in the workflow as longer grind times. Mahlkönig quotes these burr lifetimes at a medium grind setting:

  • E65S (65 mm special steel burrs): about 800 kg of coffee
  • E80S (80 mm special steel burrs): about 1,500 kg
  • EK43 (98 mm cast steel burrs): about 6,000 kg

As a guide, a café grinding 20 kg of espresso a week on an E65S will reach 800 kg in under 10 months. Finer espresso settings wear burrs faster than filter settings, so a busy espresso grinder usually needs new burrs at least once a year. We'll check burr wear at every service and tell you how much life is left.

Common Mahlkönig problems we fix

  • Shots running fast, sour or inconsistent: usually worn burrs, or burrs out of alignment after a knock or a burr change.
  • Grind-by-weight doses drifting: the load cell needs recalibrating, or coffee build-up is affecting the scale.
  • Grinder stalls, hums or won't start: often a foreign object caught in the burrs, a jammed chute, or an electrical fault in the motor or switch.
  • Clumping, static or retention: old grounds packed in the chute, or worn burrs producing excess fines.
  • Noisy running: worn motor bearings or a problem in the burr carrier.
  • Display or touch screen faults: firmware or electronics issues on newer models.

Keeping your grinder running well

Between services, clean out the chute and burr chamber regularly and use grinder cleaning tablets to shift coffee oils. On busy café grinders we recommend a professional service every 6 to 12 months, with burr checks at each visit, alongside your espresso machine service so you only book one visit.
